technology & me

As a faculty, i would like to share my personal experiences as a high school faculty then and as a college faculty now. When i was in high school, i always made it a point to teach with instructional materials. It is always a part of my preparation before i went to the classroom for the day's discussion, lecture or concept paper making and or quiz.

Because almost all the faculty in ULHS-Palusapis, are acquainted and good in computer, it is expected that our students were also good. Thus, i capitalized this talents by my students. I used to prepare computer based or computer made/assisted instructional materials. Most of the time it was the power point, which was oftentimes used. I was happy then that my students were appreciating my work. I was also asking my students to make their own presentations based on the given report to each one. With little assistance, my students were doing their own power point presentation very presentable.

I college, personally, i viewed the instructional technology as very useful to me. For instance in Social Dimensions, whenever i used a movie maker presentation, i noticed that my student's interest were so high. They were very active and got high grades whenever short quizzes-essay or objective types-were given.
I also see it as very useful on my part for i could keep the old presentations and could used them again as the time arises. Economically, it is cheap than the old types of technological materials, fountain pen and manila paper and cartolina for instance. There are also software which are very practical to use such as power point and microsoft word or excel. Several templates are available in the internet.
In short the modern technology made the teacher's task easy...

I was happy that i enrolled Ph.D. Honestly speaking i learned a lot in Edtech. The power director which i just experienced to use now is one of the many topics which i like and appreciated. Before, i really do not mind the internet, now i am beginning to appreciate it.

post script.

i had mixed emotions when i saw the posted yellow cartolina on the education bulletin board bearing the names of EEd students who were given award in edtech 1 under Prof. Vilma M. Salas. (Shes my former teacher in educ technology when manila paper and fountain pen were the top in the lists of needed teaching materials of teachers, student teachers and presenters). At first i was happy because students are now exposed to different modern types of instructional materials specially the technology related ones which are very useful in teaching -learning process. Teaching probably will become virtual, interactive and more interesting.
On the other hand, i have reservations, for i know that there are several primary and secondary schools in our country which do not have the basic necessities in school. It may be located in urban or rural areas). With the typhoons Ondoy, Ramil and Santi, there were various schools which were submerged into water and mud. If not totally wrecked, school facilities, and instructional materials were gone. The hopes and dreams of parents and poor little minds were vanished. It needs several years again to establish the school buildings and bring back the teaching materials. Will the dreamers and hopefuls wait as the authorities establish the pillar of their dreams or opted to wait as philanthropists, charitable institutions, and TV stations bequeath help and embark on re-building these avenues?
The modern types of technology is useless in such areas. Teachers will start once again from zero and will become resourceful and creative in their respective classes.
